The US Senate approved new sanctions on Russia's energy sector as overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv killed at least 15 people.

The U.S. Senate has overwhelmingly approved a new package of sanctions targeting Russia's energy sector, sending the measure to the House of Representatives for an expected September vote. The legislative action comes alongside a U.S. intelligence assessment warning that Moscow could carry out hybrid operations or a limited ground invasion against a NATO ally in the coming years.

Meanwhile, military escalation continues in Ukraine. Overnight Russian missile strikes across several neighborhoods in Kyiv and nearby areas killed at least 15 people and wounded dozens, amid ongoing long-range bombardment by both sides.

In Middle East diplomacy, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that talks between Washington and Iranian officials are active "right now."
