Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has urged parliament to prepare legal and logistical frameworks for holding elections once war ends.

Former Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov has called on parliament to begin preparing legal and logistical frameworks for post-war elections. Fedorov, who was dismissed by President Volodymyr Zelensky in July, argued that establishing clear procedures now is essential to safeguard democratic governance once hostilities conclude.

Under Ukrainian law, elections cannot take place while martial law remains active. However, organizing future votes presents significant administrative challenges, including enabling participation for millions of refugees abroad, internally displaced persons, and active-duty military personnel on the front lines. Ukrainian parliamentary leaders have not yet established a formal timeline or legislative schedule to address election readiness.
