US President Donald Trump has delayed planned 50% tariffs on Canadian imports for three days after reaching a tentative trade deal with Ottawa.

United States President Donald Trump has delayed the introduction of 50% tariffs on Canadian goods for three days, citing a preliminary trade agreement between the two nations.

The announcement occurred late Tuesday, shortly before the punitive duties on billions of dollars in imports were scheduled to take effect. Posting on social media, Trump stated that he paused the measures "based on the fact that Canada and the U.S.A., subject to the finalization of documents, have a DEAL!"

The temporary halt provides negotiators time to conclude the formal text of the arrangement, staving off an imminent escalation in bilateral trade tensions. Officials from both governments are working to finalize the pact before the three-day window expires.
