US escort operations move record crude through the Strait of Hormuz as Iran deploys rocket-delivered mines and reiterates closure terms.

Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to intensify following the largest US operation to transport crude oil through the waterway since the conflict began six months ago. Relying on air, naval, and space assets, US forces conducted night-time escort missions to move millions of barrels of crude oil.

In response to US strikes on Larak Island and the transport operations, Iranian forces deployed rocket-delivered sea mines along the maritime corridor. Iranian officials stated that the strategic passage will remain closed until Washington meets conditions outlined in a memorandum, including lifting oil sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets, ending port blockades, and ceasing military operations. Prior to the conflict, approximately 20 million barrels of oil traversed the strait daily.
