US charges five alleged Russian operatives over global assassination plots
US prosecutors charged five alleged Russian agents over targeted assassination plots, while a German court convicted a man in a related parcel bomb scheme.
United States federal prosecutors have unsealed an indictment charging five alleged Russian intelligence operatives with orchestrating a campaign of targeted assassinations and sabotage across Europe and North America.
According to the Department of Justice, the network recruited individuals globally to surveil and attack supporters of Ukraine, linking suspects to a June 2024 incident in Prague. All five accused individuals remain at large.
Concurrently, a regional court in Stuttgart, Germany, convicted a Ukrainian national involved in a Russian-backed parcel bomb scheme. Prosecutors said the operation aimed to disrupt European logistics and undermine security.
