Canada has enacted retaliatory tariffs of up to 50 percent on C$28 billion of US goods after bilateral trade negotiations collapsed.

Cross-border trade tensions between the United States and Canada have escalated following the breakdown of bilateral negotiations, leading Washington to enact 50 percent duties on roughly $20 billion in Canadian imports. The American tariffs impact around five percent of Canada's yearly shipments south, affecting various manufactured and agricultural goods.

Ottawa responded by implementing matching counter-tariffs of up to 50 percent on approximately C$28 billion ($20 billion) worth of US items, including steel, furniture, and textiles. Prime Minister Mark Carney halted further trade discussions, committing to match American levies dollar for dollar while providing financial assistance to protect Canadian businesses and workers from market instability.
