A Geneva consensus on autonomous weapons coincides with expanding military AI projects across Germany, NATO, and Ukraine.

In Geneva, 128 United Nations member states established a formal definition for autonomous weapon systems, prompting joint warnings from the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross that machine-led human targeting risks "crossing a moral red line."

Concurrently, military forces in Europe are accelerating artificial intelligence integration. Newly disclosed German military concept papers indicate semi-autonomous weapons may operate without step-by-step human involvement, though a defense spokesperson noted that "the decision on the use of military force remains with humans." Germany also rejected software from US vendor Palantir, electing to construct an in-house AI data analysis tool instead.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and NATO have jointly created two AI applications aimed at predicting hostile drone paths and optimizing artillery fire support.
