Trump urges Ukraine and Russia to reach peace deal before winter

U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks a peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine. Following a phone call with Putin, Trump urged both the Russian leader and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to negotiate a deal prior to winter.

Zelensky characterized his recent discussion with Trump as positive and productive, noting that both Kyiv and Washington aim to stop the conflict in the coming months. Trump publicly stated, "He wants a deal, and if Zelensky wants a deal, that would be great." Despite these public assertions, neither government has outlined specific conditions or a formal timetable for starting official diplomatic negotiations.
