Trump urges Ukraine and Russia to negotiate peace deal before winter

U.S. President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a negotiated settlement to end the war in Ukraine before winter. Following a telephone call with Putin and a face-to-face meeting with Zelensky, Trump expressed confidence that the Russian leader is open to an agreement, stating, "He wants a deal, and if Zelensky wants a deal, that would be great."

Zelensky described his discussions with Trump as positive and productive, noting that Washington and Kyiv share the goal of halting Russian military aggression in the coming months. While Trump expressed optimism regarding diplomatic prospects, specific terms for any potential settlement remain undisclosed, and Moscow has not publicly confirmed its position on proposed conditions.
