Trump urges Ukraine and Russia to negotiate end to war before winter

US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin desires a settlement to end the conflict in Ukraine, following a telephone discussion between the two leaders. Speaking after a separate meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump reiterated his call for both sides to negotiate a direct compromise.

Zelensky described his discussions with Trump as positive and productive, noting that both Washington and Kyiv share the goal of stopping Russian aggression before the onset of winter. While Trump affirmed agreement with Zelensky on several topics, he emphasized that a lasting resolution requires mutual concessions between Moscow and Kyiv.
