US President Donald Trump has urged Ukraine and Russia to reach a peace agreement before winter following a meeting in Washington with Volodymyr Zelensky.

US President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reach a negotiated settlement to end the conflict in Ukraine before winter.

Following a meeting in Washington, Zelensky described the discussions as "positive and productive," adding that both nations share the goal of halting hostilities in the coming months. Trump stated he agrees with the Ukrainian leader on several issues, but stressed the necessity of a compromise, remarking, "I want him to reach an agreement with Putin and that Putin reach an agreement with him."

The statement follows a telephone conversation between Trump and Putin. Trump expressed confidence that Moscow is actively seeking a resolution, provided Kyiv is also prepared to negotiate.
