Trump pushes Ukraine and Russia toward peace talks before winter

US President Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an agreement to end the war in Ukraine prior to winter. Speaking after discussions with both leaders, Trump expressed confidence that Moscow is seeking a resolution, stating that Putin "wants a deal" and adding that "if Zelensky wants a deal, it would be great."

Zelensky described his exchange with Trump as "positive and productive," noting a shared objective between Kyiv and Washington to halt Russian military action in the coming months. While Trump indicated alignment with Zelensky on several issues, he stressed that direct compromise between Kyiv and Moscow remains necessary to achieve peace.
