Trump pushes for Ukraine war settlement before winter following talks

US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks a resolution to the war in Ukraine, following a recent telephone conversation between the two leaders. Trump urged both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to reach a negotiated settlement before winter, stating, "He wants a deal and, if Zelensky wants a deal, that would be great."

Zelensky characterized his meeting with Trump as positive and productive, adding that Kyiv and Washington share the goal of ending the conflict in the coming months. Despite the optimistic statements, neither side has publicly outlined concrete terms or a specific timeline for formal peace negotiations.
