Trump gives mixed signals on Strait of Hormuz as Iranian tensions persist

U.S. President Donald Trump offered conflicting statements on the Strait of Hormuz, while Tehran insisted the passage will stay closed until Washington changes its foreign policy.
U.S. President Donald Trump offered conflicting statements regarding the Strait of Hormuz crisis, suggesting a resolution could be finalized within days while simultaneously stating that no formal negotiations with Iran are scheduled. Speaking on the standoff, Trump described the situation as "like a chess match" and downplayed the urgency of an immediate deal, insisting the waterway remains functional.
However, maritime traffic through the strait declined by another 20 percent over the past week, dropping to 95 vessels amid attacks on commercial ships. Tehran denied holding direct talks with Washington, warning that the passage will remain closed until the U.S. alters its policy. Iranian officials clarified that ongoing discussions with Oman focus strictly on creating safe shipping corridors, threatening military action if diplomatic avenues prove unsuccessful.
