Conflicting signals from Washington and Tehran keep the Strait of Hormuz paralyzed six months into the crisis, despite technical progress mediated by Oman.

As the six-month standoff in the Strait of Hormuz continues, conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran highlight ongoing uncertainty over reopening the critical maritime corridor. United States President Donald Trump expressed optimism regarding Oman-mediated negotiations, predicting a potential resolution "very soon" while warning that Iran faces severe military consequences if maritime access is not restored.

Conversely, Iranian officials maintain that the waterway will remain closed until Washington lifts oil sanctions, unfreezes blocked assets, and ceases military operations. While Tehran's foreign ministry confirmed progress with Oman on establishing a safe navigation route, senior leaders within Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened "strategic surprises" and vowed to resist American pressure. Commercial traffic through the strait remains down to roughly 15 daily crossings, compared to 95 prior to the closure.
