Hostilities and maritime standoffs have escalated across the Middle East following the expiration of the 60-day US-Iran truce agreed under the Islamabad memorandum.

Tensions across the Middle East have intensified following the expiration of the 60-day truce agreed between the United States and Iran under the Islamabad memorandum.

Diplomatic friction escalated after US President Donald Trump asserted that Washington maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz and suggested designating the vital waterway American territory. Iranian officials dismissed the statement, maintaining their maritime stance while demanding complete sanctions relief and the unfreezing of foreign assets. Tehran also placed bounties on US service members and accused Israel of undermining the truce.

Hostilities spread across several fronts. Air defense systems intercepted two Iranian missiles over Dubai, and Houthi forces struck Yemen's port of Al Makha. In the Gulf of Oman, US naval forces fired upon the container vessel Vela Nova after accusing the ship of attempting to bypass transit restrictions.
