Talks continue over Strait of Hormuz as Iran demands sanctions relief
Iran and Oman continue discussions over the Strait of Hormuz amid Iranian demands for U.S. sanctions relief and Donald Trump's remarks on an imminent deal.
Negotiations between Iran and Oman over maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, with discussions focused on establishing safe shipping corridors. Iranian officials stated that an agreement is approaching its final stages, though Tehran insists that fully restoring navigation requires the United States to lift sanctions, withdraw military threats, and provide compensation.
U.S. President Donald Trump suggested a resolution could occur shortly, while simultaneously downplaying the urgency of negotiations by highlighting Iran's economic difficulties. However, Washington has also warned of serious repercussions should the strategic waterway remain obstructed.
In concurrent regional developments, Lebanese and Israeli delegations have opened a seventh round of talks in Rome, as approximately 800,000 displaced individuals begin returning to southern Lebanon.
