Sweden thwarts Russian intelligence operation targeting NATO and EU

Sweden's security agency has foiled a covert Russian intelligence operation aimed at influencing decision-making and undermining Sweden, NATO, and the EU.
Sweden's security service has disrupted a covert Russian intelligence operation intended to damage the nation's reputation and influence domestic decision-making, according to counterintelligence officials. The agency stated that the plot involved an operative functioning within a foreign diplomatic mission in Sweden and sought to undermine trust in Sweden, NATO, and the European Union.
The disclosure comes amidst broader security challenges across Eastern Europe. Ukrainian forces continue to grapple with air defense missile shortages as Russian forces deploy long-range strike drones and missiles along the front lines.
