The Sweden Democrats suffered their first parliamentary election drop to 17.5 percent, though leader Jimmie Åkesson continues to demand ministerial posts following local gains.

Following Sweden's latest parliamentary election, the Sweden Democrats experienced their first vote decline, falling to 17.5 percent from 20.5 percent in 2022 after losing support to the Moderate Party. Senior party official Tobias Andersson called the decrease "concerning," particularly among younger demographics.

Despite the drop, party leader Jimmie Åkesson maintained demands for cabinet seats in potential coalition talks, insisting that "there is no obvious winner in this election." The party fared better in local contests, obtaining 39 percent of the vote in Färgelanda following school closure disputes. Separately, legal proceedings against former lawmaker Katja Nyberg were postponed.
