The Sweden Democrats saw their first national election setback, falling to 17.5 percent, even as leader Jimmie Åkesson maintained demands for cabinet representation.

The Sweden Democrats experienced their first decline in a national parliamentary election, securing 17.5 percent of the vote compared to 20.5 percent in 2022. Party official Tobias Andersson cited losses among younger voters and shifts toward the Moderate Party as concerning. Despite the overall drop, party leader Jimmie Åkesson maintained demands for cabinet positions, asserting that "there is no obvious winner in this election."

In municipal voting, the party achieved a record 39 percent in Färgelanda, establishing it as their strongest local stronghold following disputes over school closures. Separately, the trial of former party lawmaker Katja Nyberg has been postponed.
