A suspected cyberattack targeting supermarket freezer systems in Belgium, Sweden, and Ireland has led to major food waste and ongoing investigations.

A suspected cyberattack has targeted refrigeration and freezer systems in dozens of supermarkets across Belgium, Sweden, and Ireland, forcing retailers to discard thousands of euros worth of perishable food.

The disruption affected approximately 40 Delhaize locations and 15 Carrefour outlets in Belgium, alongside several ICA and Coop stores in Sweden. In Ireland, 13 SuperValu shops experienced similar issues with their cooling equipment. Local reports indicate that the incidents compromised automated temperature control systems, causing widespread inventory losses. IT security teams and local authorities are investigating the origin and extent of the breach.
