Six months into the Strait of Hormuz crisis, daily maritime traffic has plummeted to 15 transits while military confrontations between US and Iranian forces intensify.

Six months after Iran restricted maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, daily ship transits have dropped from 95 to around 15. Iranian officials confirmed the waterway will remain closed until Washington lifts energy sanctions, unfreezes Iranian assets, and halts military operations.

Although Tehran reported establishing a safe navigation corridor with Oman, military friction has heightened. Following Iranian deployments of rocket-launched sea mines targeting nocturnal US oil shipments, American forces struck Iranian mine-laying infrastructure on Larak Island. The ongoing standoff continues to endanger global energy markets, as the corridor historically carried roughly one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies.
