Diplomatic discussions on the Strait of Hormuz show signs of movement, but Tehran insists the waterway will stay closed until US sanctions and blockades end.

Diplomatic discussions regarding the Strait of Hormuz have produced mixed signals from Washington and Tehran. US President Donald Trump stated that Omani-mediated talks are progressing well and suggested the strategic waterway could reopen "very soon," while reiterating warnings that Iran faces severe military action if an agreement is not reached. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also cited positive developments in recent discussions.

Conversely, Iranian officials clarified that the strait will remain closed until Washington lifts its port blockade, revokes energy sanctions, unfreezes seized assets, and halts military threats. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei confirmed a technical agreement with Oman establishing a safe navigation corridor. Simultaneously, senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commanders promised "strategic surprises" and vowed not to capitulate to American pressure.
