Strait of Hormuz negotiations advance as Iran and Washington trade demands

Negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz have continued, with discussions focusing on established shipping corridors and vessel oversight. Iranian officials reiterated that reopening the strategic waterway depends on the United States removing sanctions, ending military threats, and providing compensation for conflict damages.

U.S. President Donald Trump suggested an arrangement could materialize swiftly, likening the diplomatic maneuvering to a chess match while pointing to Iran's domestic economic pressures. At the same time, U.S. officials signaled potential consequences if the vital maritime artery remains impeded.

Concurrently, Lebanese and Israeli delegations opened a seventh round of talks in Rome amid the return of displaced civilians to southern Lebanon, while reports emerged of an Indian vessel being struck near Yemen.
