Spanish authorities address fallout as Ceuta migration numbers remain disputed

Spanish authorities manage the fallout of the Ceuta migration crisis as local officials and Morocco report starkly different casualty and arrival figures.
Spanish authorities and local officials continue to respond to the recent migration wave into the North African enclave of Ceuta, as widely conflicting figures persist regarding the human impact. Local authorities in Ceuta report that up to 80,000 individuals crossed into the city, with local morgues handling up to 88 fatalities. Conversely, Morocco's Interior Ministry acknowledged approximately 40,000 entries into Ceuta and confirmed 11 deaths on Moroccan soil.
In Madrid, the central government dismissed a National Security Department communications staff member over the unauthorized publication of a report listing 49,000 entries. Meanwhile, Spanish military units remain deployed to manage border deportations amid reports of cabinet friction between the Interior and Defense ministries. Guardia Civil officers have established a dedicated office in Ceuta to trace missing persons.
