Spain has moved around 2,000 migrants in Ceuta into temporary reception centers following a massive late-July border crossing from Morocco.

Spanish authorities have begun relocating approximately 2,000 migrants remaining in the North African enclave of Ceuta into two newly established temporary reception centers. The measure comes three weeks after tens of thousands crossed the border from Morocco in late July, leaving hundreds sleeping on beaches and public streets in severe heat.

Reinforced security measures by Spanish and Moroccan forces successfully prevented a rumored secondary mass crossing attempt on 15 August. Dozens of police vehicles and additional personnel were deployed along the border to maintain control. While the vast majority of those who entered in July have since returned to Morocco, local frustration in Ceuta remains high due to continued public disruption and political friction surrounding the crisis.
