Spain relocates migrants to temporary shelters in Ceuta enclave

Spanish authorities have moved around 2,000 migrants into temporary reception centers in Ceuta following a massive border influx in late July.
Spanish authorities have begun relocating approximately 2,000 migrants into two newly established temporary reception centers in the North African enclave of Ceuta. The move by Madrid’s migration ministry aims to clear public spaces and provide shelter for individuals who had been sleeping on streets and beaches following a massive border crossing in late July.
A heavily reinforced police presence from both Spain and Morocco successfully prevented a second anticipated border surge over the weekend of 15 August. While the vast majority of the estimated 72,000 people who crossed in July have returned to Morocco, nearly 2,000 remain. Local residents in Ceuta have described the situation as an "invasion" while simultaneously criticizing right-wing political figures for exploiting the ongoing humanitarian strain.
