Spain establishes temporary reception centers in Ceuta for roughly 1,800 remaining migrants after joint police security thwarted further border crossing attempts.

Spanish authorities have begun transferring around 2,000 migrants to two temporary reception facilities in the North African enclave of Ceuta to provide shelter for those remaining after late July's massive border crossing. The migration ministry stated the temporary centers aim to clear public streets and beaches where approximately 1,800 people had been sleeping in improvised conditions.

The initiative follows heightened border enforcement by Spanish and Moroccan police, which successfully thwarted a rumored secondary crossing attempt planned for mid-August. Most of the estimated 72,000 individuals who entered the enclave during the initial influx have since returned to Morocco.

Despite the opening of new accommodation sites, local frustration persists among residents regarding ongoing social pressure and the political exploitation of the crisis by regional factions.
