Slovenian football figures Čeh and Mlakar reflect on careers and club rivalries

Former Slovenian national football team captain Aleš Čeh and striker Jan Mlakar have shared perspectives on their careers, managerial paths, and domestic league dynamics. Čeh, who led Slovenia during its prominent qualification era, highlighted his transition into coaching after retiring as a player. Having assisted former national manager Srečko Katanec for over a decade, including seven years coaching in Asian football, Čeh noted his enduring attachment to Olimpija Ljubljana and Austria's Grazer AK, alongside respect for Maribor.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old forward Jan Mlakar discussed his third stint with Maribor, expressing an ambition to win his first Slovenian league title with the club. Addressing transfer rumors, the Ljubljana-born forward confirmed he was never close to joining hometown rivals Olimpija, adding that despite Olimpija's internal difficulties, derby matches remain unpredictable.
