Slovakia's government faces mounting political strain over arms consulting payments, minister dismissals, nepotism allegations, and renewed military ties with Russia.

Slovakia’s ruling coalition faces mounting scrutiny following a series of political and ethical controversies. Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák confirmed receiving consultancy payments from Czech defense contractor CSG to promote Tatra vehicles in the United Arab Emirates prior to awarding ministry contracts to the firm.

Meanwhile, Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba was removed from office after Slovak National Party leader Andrej Danko joined opposition lawmakers in a parliamentary vote. In foreign policy, Bratislava restored military attache ties with Moscow, prompting opposition warnings over security and espionage risks.

Ethics concerns also intensified following revelations that a police investigator’s wife was named to a state energy company’s supervisory board without a tender shortly after her husband dismissed criminal complaints against Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok. Officials have denied any wrongdoing.
