Slovakia's ruling coalition faces pressure over ministry contracts with a Czech defense firm, a cabinet dismissal, restored military ties with Russia, and questionable state appointments.

Slovakia's ruling coalition is under mounting political pressure following several controversies involving key government officials.

Defense Minister Robert Kaliňák confirmed that his consulting firm received payments for lobbying on behalf of Czech arms manufacturer CSG in the United Arab Emirates before he assumed office. His ministry subsequently awarded contracts to the company.

In parliament, Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba was dismissed after Slovak National Party leader Andrej Danko joined opposition lawmakers to vote him out.

Meanwhile, Slovakia restored bilateral military attaché relations with Russia, prompting opposition criticism over potential espionage risks. Separately, government transparency concerns arose after the wife of a police investigator was appointed to a state energy company board without a public tender, shortly after her husband dismissed criminal complaints against Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok. Officials deny any improper influence.
