Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has resigned seven months early, triggering snap presidential elections alongside upcoming October parliamentary votes.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić officially stepped down on Sunday, concluding his second five-year term seven months ahead of schedule. The constitutional limit prevents Vučić from seeking a third consecutive term as head of state.

His resignation triggers snap presidential elections, which must take place within the next 90 days under constitutional guidelines. The move precedes early parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25, following the earlier dissolution of the national legislature. Former parliamentary speaker Ana Brnabić has assumed the role of acting president during the political transition.
