Search intensifies in Nepal and Tibet as flood missing toll grows

Rescue crews in Nepal and China continue searching for thousands missing after deadly glacier collapse flooding.
Emergency crews in Nepal and China are continuing efforts to locate survivors following severe flooding along the Himalayan border caused by a glacier collapse.
Official death tolls have passed 1,000, with Nepal recording 987 fatalities and Chinese authorities confirming 16. Thousands remain missing across the region, including nearly 3,900 in Nepal—among them over 500 foreign nationals—and more than 550 unaccounted for in Tibet.
Specialized rescue teams, assisted by experts from India and China, are attempting to clear blocked hydropower project tunnels where hundreds of workers are believed to be trapped. Rising river levels, mudslides, and extensive damage to over 40 kilometers of roads continue to hamper relief operations.
