Himalayan flood death toll exceeds 1,000 as search for missing continues

Rescue crews in Nepal and China continue searching for thousands missing after glacier-triggered flooding claimed over 1,000 lives.
Search and rescue operations continue along the Nepal-China border following catastrophic flash flooding triggered by a glacier collapse. The combined death toll has surpassed 1,000, with officials confirming 987 fatalities in Nepal and 16 in China. Thousands remain missing, including nearly 3,900 people in Nepal—among them over 500 foreign nationals—and more than 550 in Tibet.
Rescue teams, assisted by Indian and Chinese specialists, are attempting to clear blocked hydropower tunnels where hundreds of workers remain trapped. Emergency efforts face major obstacles due to rising water levels, mudslides, and severe infrastructure collapse, including the destruction of over 40 kilometers of roads. A local survivor noted that "all the houses near the river were swept away."
