Russian ground momentum in Ukraine has stalled despite official Kremlin claims, while Moscow intensifies drone and missile strikes against Kyiv's energy infrastructure ahead of winter.

Frontline developments show Russian ground offensives remaining largely stalled across Ukraine despite claims of success from Moscow. Mapping data from the Institute for the Study of War and DeepState showed negligible net territorial shifts through late September, while analytical group Black Bird Group noted Russian gains remained limited to approximately 133 square kilometers in August. Localized Ukrainian counterattacks, particularly near Oleksandrivka, have reclaimed territory.

Concurrently, Moscow has intensified long-range strikes against Ukraine's energy grid ahead of winter. Prime Minister Serhij Koreckyj confirmed recent bombardments targeting Kyiv's power infrastructure were the largest since last spring. The strikes come as Ukrainian air defense efficiency dropped, with drone interception rates falling from 92 percent in May to 83 percent in September.
