Russia tests mobilization readiness ahead of September elections

Russia is testing its military mobilization infrastructure ahead of September State Duma elections as analysts warn of a prolonged conflict.
Reports continue to indicate that Russia is testing its military mobilization infrastructure ahead of the September State Duma elections. Recent exercises, including those conducted in the Kaliningrad region, focused on housing, equipping, and arming potential conscripts. Although Russian President Vladimir Putin has not officially issued a mobilization decree, escalating costs for contract recruits and high battlefield losses are increasing manpower pressure on the Kremlin.
Western strategic planners increasingly view a prolonged war as likely, preparing for potential conflict extending through 2027. Officials and defense analysts suggest that upcoming offensives toward Sloviansk and Kramatorsk could further incentivize Russian leadership to initiate a new draft to maintain offensive momentum.
