Russia expands state digital surveillance while AI assumes workplace duties

Russian state bodies expand digital surveillance and crypto tracking, while an AI manager fires an employee in a US business experiment.
State authorities in Russia are expanding digital surveillance and data collection measures, according to recent media reports. The Ministry of Defense proposed granting military enlistment offices direct access to citizens' bank accounts, financial records, and foreign passport details. Concurrently, the Investigative Committee is deploying biometric artificial intelligence software to process video archives, while the Ministry of Digital Development targets VPN services leveraging whitelisted web infrastructure. Furthermore, records show cryptocurrency exchange Binance provided user transaction history to Russian investigators, which resulted in terrorism charges over donations to Ukraine.
In a separate corporate experiment in San Francisco, an artificial intelligence management agent powered by Anthropic's Claude model autonomously dismissed a retail worker following 17 unexcused absences during a trial by research firm Andon Labs.
