Qatari mediation continues on Strait of Hormuz as US strikes Iranian targets
Qatari mediators are pushing for a US-Iran breakthrough over the Strait of Hormuz despite US strikes on Larak Island and new demands from Washington.
Qatar’s Prime Minister has engaged in fresh talks with Iranian officials to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, expressing optimism that a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran could be imminent.
The mediation comes amidst ongoing military and political friction. The United States military recently launched strikes against two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island, marking the first US attacks on Iranian territory in a month. Furthermore, US President Donald Trump stated that Washington will demand financial compensation from Tehran for historical attacks, raising doubts over rapid diplomatic progress.
Simultaneously, Tehran announced technical progress on a separate maritime arrangement with Oman. Iranian officials confirmed that geographic coordinates for a new transit route through the strait have been finalized, provided that "third parties do not interfere".
