Qatar continues US-Iran mediation despite new strikes and expanding demands
Qatar continues mediating talks between Washington and Tehran to resolve the Strait of Hormuz crisis, despite renewed US strikes on Larak Island and growing diplomatic demands.
Qatari mediation between the United States and Iran remains active despite recent military escalation and hardening diplomatic positions. US Central Command confirmed launching strikes against missile launchers on Iran's Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first US strikes on Iranian territory in a month. Iranian state media reported that six naval personnel died in the attack.
In parallel diplomatic exchanges, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented Tehran's terms for reopening the strategic waterway to US envoy Steve Witkoff. Iran demanded an immediate end to the US naval blockade, the release of all frozen Iranian assets, and a cessation of hostilities on all fronts. Tensions further complicated talks after US President Donald Trump announced Washington would demand financial compensation from Tehran for past casualties. Qatari officials maintain that diplomatic discussions remain ongoing.
