Pope Leo XIV is recovering at Gemelli Hospital in Rome following surgery to remove a lung nodule, with public audiences suspended through October 20.
Pope Leo XIV was admitted to Rome's Gemelli Hospital for surgery to remove a lung nodule, with medical personnel reporting that his post-operative recovery is proceeding as expected. Doctors anticipate a hospital stay lasting between five days and one week. Following the procedure, the pontiff began moving around his room and resuming limited governance duties.
In response to the medical procedure, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin noted that while the initial announcement came unexpectedly, officials remain confident. Parolin added that future papal activities may require adjustments, remarking that "the pontificate will be reshaped" to accommodate health considerations. All public audiences remain suspended through October 20 while the Pope continues his recuperation.
