Oman mediates Strait of Hormuz transit talks as regional diplomacy expands

Negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz have continued, with United States officials noting progress despite the absence of a finalized agreement. Tehran is seeking supervisory control over incoming and outgoing maritime routes while maintaining that reopening the waterway depends on US sanctions relief and financial concessions. In parallel, Washington has maintained pressure, warning of significant repercussions if the vital maritime corridor remains restricted.

Broader regional diplomacy also advanced as Lebanese and Israeli delegations opened a seventh round of mediated talks in Rome. Meanwhile, United Nations monitoring indicates that roughly 800,000 displaced civilians have initiated their return to southern Lebanon.
