Lithuanian president urges calm over border troop deployment

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has urged citizens not to fear increased military deployments along the Russian border, calling the action a prudent security step.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has urged citizens to remain calm following the deployment of additional troops along the country's border with Russia, describing the move as a preventive measure against potential threats. Nausėda noted that "it is better to observe even excessive caution" than to respond after a provocation occurs.
In a wide-ranging interview, Nausėda acknowledged existing vulnerabilities in Lithuania's national security framework, pointing out gaps in air defense capabilities and delays in joint drone production ventures with Ukraine. He also expressed concern over friction between the defense ministry and military leadership, warning that a recent controversy involving a social event organized by defense officials could cause lasting reputational harm.
