Lithuanian president urges calm over border security and addresses defense delays

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda urged calm over Russia border military steps while citing air defense gaps and drone production delays with Ukraine.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has urged citizens not to panic following increased military deployments along the border with Russia, describing the move as a preventative strategy against potential risks. Nausėda stressed that "it is better to observe even excessive caution" to prevent incidents rather than reacting after they occur.
Beyond border security, Nausėda acknowledged vulnerabilities in Lithuania's air defense infrastructure and reported delays in joint drone production efforts with Ukraine. He also expressed frustration regarding internal disputes and controversies within the Ministry of National Defence, warning that the fallout will cause lasting reputational damage.
