Iran and Oman agree on Hormuz shipping route as Tehran sets terms

Iran and Oman have agreed on coordinates for a Strait of Hormuz shipping corridor, though Tehran has attached financial conditions to fully reopening the strategic waterway.
Iran and Oman have agreed on the geographic coordinates for a designated shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, with the deal approaching its "final stage," according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei.
However, Iranian officials cautioned that bilateral arrangements cannot guarantee overall waterway safety on their own, warning against obstruction from third parties. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also noted that fully restoring maritime access remains "subject to other conditions," including compensation for war-related damages.
The strategic corridor remains under close scrutiny amid ongoing security incidents. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported two explosions near an oil tanker operating off Oman's coast, confirming that the crew remained unharmed and no vessel damage or environmental pollution occurred.
