Iran and Oman advance plan for Strait of Hormuz shipping corridor

Iran and Oman have agreed on coordinates for a Strait of Hormuz shipping route, though Tehran tied full access to broader conditions amid ongoing regional tensions.
Iran and Oman have agreed on the geographical coordinates for a proposed maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. Baghaei stated that the deal is in its final drafting phase, though its implementation depends on third parties refraining from interference. Iranian officials also cautioned that a bilateral pact alone cannot ensure navigational security while US blockade measures remain in place.
Simultaneously, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that fully reopening the vital waterway remains subject to additional conditions, including compensation for war damages. Maritime risks remain elevated across the corridor after the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported two unexplained explosions near an oil tanker off Oman's coast. The agency confirmed the vessel and crew were safe, with no environmental damage recorded.
