Iceland's government is holding nationwide town halls and setting firm red lines on fisheries and agriculture ahead of the August 29 EU referendum.

Icelandic political leaders are engaging the public and outlining core national interests ahead of the August 29 referendum on resuming European Union accession negotiations.

Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir announced a nationwide tour comprising nine town hall sessions to consult with citizens before the vote. The series begins in Reykjanesbær and concludes in Reykjavík three days prior to the ballot.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir reiterated strict prerequisites for any potential agreement. In a recent interview, she stressed that Iceland must maintain full authority and autonomy over its domestic fisheries sector. She added that any future framework must also protect agricultural interests, specifically safeguarding national food security and animal welfare regulations.
