Icelandic officials announce a nationwide tour and set firm conditions on fisheries and agriculture ahead of the August 29 referendum on EU accession talks.

Icelandic leaders are laying the groundwork for the upcoming national referendum on restarting European Union membership talks, set for August 29.

Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir announced a nationwide tour of nine public listening meetings across the country. The tour begins in Reykjanesbær and concludes in Reykjavík on August 26, intended to gather voter sentiment before citizens cast their ballots.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir outlined the government's core terms for potential negotiations, emphasizing that preserving complete domestic control over Iceland's fisheries is an essential condition for any future agreement. Gunnarsdóttir also affirmed that domestic agriculture must be protected, with specific safeguards for national food security and animal welfare standards.
