Iceland's government is holding nationwide listening sessions while setting strict red lines on fisheries and agriculture ahead of the August 29 EU referendum.

Icelandic officials are gearing up for the August 29 referendum on restarting accession talks with the European Union, combining local engagement with defined negotiation priorities.

Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir announced a nationwide tour comprising nine town-hall meetings to consult with the public before the vote. The outreach series starts in Reykjanesbær and will conclude in Reykjavík on August 26.

Simultaneously, Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir reaffirmed Iceland's essential conditions for any future EU agreement. Gunnarsdóttir emphasised that full domestic control and sovereignty over national fisheries remain non-negotiable. She also highlighted the need to safeguard domestic food security and maintain strict animal welfare standards in agriculture during potential accession discussions.
