Germany formally blames Russia for a foiled drone plot against Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig airport, triggering diplomatic closures and Kremlin warnings.

German authorities have formally attributed an August 4 attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport to Russian state actors, following joint investigative findings. Law enforcement identified two suspects—a Belarusian national and a Russian-born citizen—believed to have prepared explosive-laden drones aimed at parked Ukrainian Antonov An-124 cargo aircraft.

German officials categorized the plot as part of a broader pattern of Russian hybrid operations across Europe. In response, Berlin mandated the closure of Russia's consulate general in Bonn alongside the Russian House cultural center in Berlin.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected the accusations, asserting that Germany is following a "path of further escalation" and confirming that Moscow will implement retaliatory measures.
