Germany is enhancing infrastructure defenses after attributing an August drone plot against Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig airport to Russian state entities.

Germany is expanding its defensive capabilities against foreign sabotage following the official attribution of an August 4 drone plot at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russian state entities. German investigators identified two suspects, a Belarusian national and a Russian-born citizen, linked to the attempted strike targeting Ukrainian An-124 cargo aircraft.

In response to the incident, Berlin ordered the closure of Russia's Consulate General in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin. To guard against future hybrid threats, the Interior Ministry is preparing new measures, including mobile anti-drone units and a cyber defense strategy.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov rejected the accusations, claiming Germany is pursuing a "path of further escalation." German officials emphasized that the attack reflects a wider pattern of Russian state-sponsored operations in Europe.
